Dear Cathedral Family,
Holy Week is upon us. The Sacred Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday) are among the most beautiful liturgies the Church offers. If you have never attended the Triduum, I highly encourage you to do so. It is a wonderful way to dive deeply into the Paschal Mystery of our Lord and to prepare for the joy of Easter.
Please find the liturgical schedule online at www.cathedralofmary.org/holy-week-2023, in the bulletin, and on the Easter card that should have arrived by mail. I look forward to celebrating this most beautiful time in the Church year with you.
As we announced at last week’s Masses, you will find a beautiful image of the cathedral in the pews of the church. On the opposite side is the schedule of Masses, confessions, and adoration, along with a QR code that leads to a specific page on our website containing information about the Cathedral parish. We ask that every family take one and think of a person to give it to in order to invite that person to Easter Mass. How wonderful it will be to double our attendance at Eastertime and to introduce or reintroduce others to this wonderful Cathedral community.
Chrism Mass
Please consider attending the Chrism Mass on Monday, April 3rd at 7:30 PM. The Chrism Mass is particular to a cathedral. At that Mass, Archbishop Lori will bless and consecrate the three oils that we use for certain sacraments. The oils are then distributed to every parish throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Catholics from every corner of the archdiocese always comment on how much they look forward to that Mass every year.
CLOW Easter Schedule Update
Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) will be pausing for Palm Sunday (April 2), Easter Sunday (April 9), and Divine Mercy Sunday (April 16). CLOW will resume on Sunday, April 23rd. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding. I especially thank our CLOW volunteers for their tireless efforts in serving our youth.
Cathedral Concert Series
As a final reminder, tonight at 7:00 PM, the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen is privileged to host the World Premier of Steve Warner’s setting of the Good Friday Passion of our Lord according to John, accompanied by harp in the Celtic tradition. Steve Warner, composer of over 100 works in hymnals around the world and founder of the Notre Dame Folk Choir, will conduct. The Passion will be followed by a brief concert by our own Cathedral Schola. Please join us for this world-premier event.
May you and your loved ones have a blessed Holy Week.
May God bless you.
