Dear Cathedral Family,
You will notice that a few lights in the cathedral church are missing. Work began on our Vision of Hope Capital Campaign project of upgrading the entire lighting system in the church. One of each type of light fixture was removed and taken to the Rambusch Lighting studio in New Jersey so that they can be studied to determine how to relight the fixtures. It was very interesting to see the large chandelier in the nave removed. The fixture was lowered by hand using a pulley. Initially, we believed that the fixtures were made, in part, of aluminum, but we discovered that each chandelier is made entirely of brass and is eight feet tall by four feet wide, and weighs 400-500 pounds. Please visit our website at cathedralofmary.org/vision-of-hope-lighting to see how it was lowered as well as some photos of the fixture up close. Truly, they are works of art.
Cathedral Colloquium
We had a wonderful turnout for the fascinating lecture that Dr. Anton Koekemoer presented on The Heavens Declare the Glory of God: Faith and Science in Harmony. Those who heard the lecture will certainly see the universe and read the Psalms in a different light.
Please join us for the next installment of our Cathedral Colloquium this Monday, April 24th at 7:00 PM in the parish center as Dr. Megan Latshaw speaks to us on the environment in her talk entitled Who Pollutes and Who Pays: The Science and Humanity of Environmental Justice. Megan is a Director of a Master’s Degree Program in the Department of Environmental Health & Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Megan is also one of our faithful lectors, and her daughter, Scout, is one of our star altar servers.
Walk for Life 2023
On Saturday, May 6th, the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen will host Pregnancy Center North’s (PCN) 6th annual Walk for Life. Some parishioners have already signed up as walkers and it’s not too late to join CMOQ’s team or sponsor them in their efforts. This family-friendly event will include a 1-mile walk on the Cathedral grounds, light refreshments, fun prizes, and more. Proceeds will fund the FREE, life-affirming services that Pregnancy Center North offers to women facing unexpected pregnancies. Brochures are available in the back of the church. Please donate or register at bit.ly/WalkForLife23. If you have any questions, please contact our church champion, Julie Gabriele at jgabriele7@gmail.com.
Concert Series: Charm City Bronze Handbell Ensemble
Join us as we conclude our Concert Series for the season with a performance by the Charm City Bronze Handbell Ensemble. Charm City Bronze Handbell Ensemble celebrates their 10th Anniversary Season with a concert featuring classical, sacred, & popular music on Sunday, April 30th at 3:00 PM here at Cathedral.
Seek the City to Come Questionnaire
The effort of listening continues through the launch of the Seek the City online and paper survey. Your voice and participation are needed for this effort. Please visit www.seekthecity.org or access a paper survey available at our parish. The survey will be open throughout the month of April and offered in multiple languages. Feedback from responses will be shared this summer of 2023 along with voices from the Open Prayer Discussions that were held in the Fall of last year and from all 62 parish visits in the City of Baltimore.
May God bless you.
