Dear Cathedral Family,
Last week, the Oblate Sisters of Providence received the wonderful news that Pope Francis declared that their foundress, Mother Mary Lange, “lived the Christian virtues in a heroic way”, thus giving her the title ‘Venerable’. Venerable Mother Mary Lange is one step closer to becoming a Blessed in the Church, still needing a miracle attributed to her to receive that distinction.
Mother Mary Lange founded the Oblate Sisters of Providence in 1829, the first religious order for women of African descent, and also established the first Catholic school for black Catholic children in the United States, St. Frances Academy. Let us join with the Oblate Sister of Providence in praying that very soon the Venerable Mother Mary Lange will be raised to the dignity of the altar.
Fourth of July Schedule
On July 4th, Mass will be offered at 8:15 AM only. There will be no 4:30 PM Confessions, Adoration, or 5:30 PM Mass that day. Also, the parish center will be closed July 3rd and 4th in observance of Independence Day. Have a relaxing and enjoyable Fourth of July holiday.
We Need Catechists
We are in need of volunteer catechists for Family Faith Formation. Serving as a Cathedral Catechist is an excellent opportunity to both participate in and contribute to the life of the parish while entering deeper into relationship with Christ and empowering our young people to do the same. Please consider supporting the Cathedral Community and the life of the Church by serving as a catechist. There are a variety of roles in which volunteers are welcome and encouraged to participate in Family Faith Formation. Please contact Alexandra Mihaly Coordinator of Faith Formation for more information.
May God bless you.
