Dear Cathedral Family,
I am grateful to all of you who have reached out to us to share your reactions and thoughts about using the original altar for Mass. We have used it for the past two weekends to “get a feel” for how it might work as the sole altar in the sanctuary of the cathedral. The overwhelming majority of responses were supportive, and passionately so. There were some who expressed that they prefer the moveable, wooden altar because it is closer to the congregation, as they felt even more removed from the action at the altar. The platform will be removed this week and the movable altar will be placed back in the upper sanctuary. We will assess everyone’s feedback, have a conversation with Archbishop Lori, and come to a decision. Again, I am grateful to all of you who have shared your thoughts, whether by e-mail, letter, phone call, or speaking to us in person after Mass. If you have not shared your thoughts with us yet, please feel free to do so.
Registration for the 2023-2024 Sacramental Preparation year is now open. Please register children in Grade 2 for First Reconciliation and First Communion and teens in Grade 9 for Confirmation. We are excited for a new year of Sacramental Preparation and the opportunity for our families to grow both in community with one another and deeper in relationship with Christ and His Church. Please see the website for more information on Sacramental Preparation and to register. Please contact Alexandra Mihaly, Coordinator of Faith Formation, with any questions.
